Case Studies in One Health - ITraP Winter School 2017
Last week was the final NSERC-CREATE funded ITraP (Integrated Training Program in Infectious Disease, Food Safety and Public Policy) winter school for graduate students. The workshop was a collaborative effort between faculty at the University of Saskatchewan and GADVASU (Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University) in Ludhiana, India where the meeting was held. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to attend my first winter school, see some interesting talks

Zoonotic Risks and Therapy Dogs
It was a pleasure to speak at a community discussion about the benefits (and some risks) associated with animal assisted interventions last Friday at Station 20 West. Thanks so much to Dr. Colleen Dell for the opportunity to engage with the public and dispel (or address?) some myths about the role of dogs in the epidemiology of human infections. To learn more about this event, and the other speakers check out Colleen's website. #zoonoses #OneHealth #canine #Staphylococcuspseu

Sharing Our Findings With the Public
I am pleased to announce yet another publication describing human Staphylococcus pseudintermedius to come out of our collaboration with Drs. Deirdre Church and Ranjani Somayaji at Calgary Laboratory Services. We were delighted to have the opportunity to describe the results of our study to the general public in an article entitled: “Staphylococcus pseudintermedius infection: a downside to man’s best friend?” which was published today in the Atlas of Science. Check it out here

Dr. Chris Yost (U of R) talks water, resistance, food and One Health!
TheRubinLab had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Chris Yost, of the University of Regina, today as part of our Veterinary Microbiology seminar series. Chris was invited to Vet Micro by Kazal, Ghosh as part of our graduate student nominated visiting lectureship series. Chris presented some of his group's work on the role of crop irrigation in the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance. Thanks for the great talk and stimulating discussion afterwards! #superbug #CTXM #OneHealth #w
